1,2-Dimyristoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DMPC)

DMPC (1,2-ditetradecanoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine) is composed of saturated and symmetric phospholipids with 14 carbon atoms. As a zwitterionic phospholipids, DMPC can be used in the formulation of liposomes, lipid nanoparticles, and other related nanodelivery systems for gene delivery. Also, DMPC can be used for delivery of siRNA, mRNA, and plasmid DNA through the combination with cationic lipids. Furthermore, DMPC can be combined with cholesterol to be used as biomembrane model. Oral supplementation of DMPC in apolipoprotein E−null mice, improves high density lipoprotein levels and other lipid profiles, preventing the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis.
