1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-glycero-3-phosphocholine (POPC)

POPC (1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-glycero-3-phosphocholine), a phospholipid with 16:0 and 18:1 acyl chains, can be used for the study of the lipid bilayer properties and other related biophysical experiments with phospholipids. POPC has been considered one of the model lipids for biophysical experiments, and it is also an excellent synthetic substitute for EPC since the major constituent in Egg PC is 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl PC. In addition, POPC can be used in the cell membrane mimicking system, such as Nanodiscs. It naturally exists in eukaryotic cell membranes and is available commercially synthetically.
