Applications:5-Cyanomethyl-uridine is a modified nucleoside in the anticodon wobble position of mutant haloarchaeal isoleucyl-tRNA synthetase. This modification has been used to explain the use of a modified cytosine base as a pair base for adenosine by archea and bacteria, rather than uracil or modified uracil.
