Applications:3-Acetyl-2(5H)-furanone is a reagent in the asymmetric total synthesis of syringolide 1, a nonproteinaceous elicitor. 3-Acetyl-2(5H)-furanone is also used in the preparation of Pilocarpine (P441500); an antiglaucoma agent, miotic, and sialogogue.
